Older movie. Young beautiful slaves were brokered as mistresses to plantation owners. There were women brokers who introduced the girls to the plantantion owners in elaborate appointed balls and events. The practice was unique to New Orleans. The movie tracks the lives of several of these young women. The plantation owners paid great sums of money and the girls were outfitted in all the best fashions and living customary for the day. It was a secret society of sorts....
