Does anyone even remember Lord of the Rings?

It seems like Peter Jackson's amazing trilogy sort of disappeared from the collective moviegoing conscience. And yet, it's still among one of the greatest achievements in cinema history. What happened?

I've always felt that the average movie goer finds it hard to follow.  There are so many characters and unless you invest some time or have read the books it's easy to get lost.

AHHHH WHAT KINDA QUESTION IS THAT? I SEE THE MOVIE SERIES LISTED ON TV ALL THE TIME! ABOUT A WEEK AGO I WATCHED THE 1ST ONE ON TV WITH MY SON! THEY ARE CONTINUESLY SHOWING THE MOVIES! THERE ARE LOTS OF LOTR TOYS BEING SOLD! THEY ARE MAKING THE PREQUEL MOVIES TO IT CALLED THE HOBBIT, 2ND ONE COMES OUT IN DECEMBER! PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO COMPARE THE MOVIES, I DONT KNOW WHY YOU WOULD WANT TO COMPARE THEM! THEY ARE NOT COMPARABLE, IT'S ALL ONE STORY!

GET OUT KNOW A LITTLE BIT OF LIFE THATS GOING ON AROUND YOU, THEN YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH IS NO ONE HAS FORGOTTEN ABOUT LOTR!!!!

Nobody forgot it. Beleive me, it's still pretty among us, around me a lot of people discuss that movie, and, being a fan my self, I  constantly take the time to watch the trilogy, especially now that The Hobbit movies are coming out.
