A movie from the 1980's or late 1970's where an object falls from space and leaves a smoking hole in the ground with eerie noises like whispering and far away laughter emerging. A group of residents comes to investigate. One of them volunteers to be lowered into the hole on a rope, then when he emerges he is raving mad babbling incoherently and all his hair had turned white like an old man.
